History
For centuries hand painted signs where the norm until the introduction of cheaper vinyl materials in the last 20-30 years.In this time the art of traditional signwriting has lost a generation of apprenticeships, rendering this skill very rare.
Planning/Conservation
Local authorities are now recognising the benifits of using traditonal hand crafted signs in regenaration projects and conservation areas, bringing character back to areas which where consummed by identikit modern shop fronts thrown upwithout any attention to architectural surrounding or relation to other shop fronts in the area.
I have worked very closely with planning departments and conservation groups and have a good understanding of what is required to meet stringent planning permission, having your signwriter act as an consultant with planning departments can eleveate pressure felt from already busy clients who are opening a new venture or expanding an existing buisness.
I can create sign on durable alluminium powder-coated panels in the studio and fit on site, or work directly onto existing shopfront dependant on condition of facia board.
